How to Reupholster a Sleeper Ottoman

When furniture ages and starts to appear worn down or a home owner decides to redo the home decor and obtain second-hand furniture, one generally wishes to reupholster said furniture. Reupholstering is often a daunting task; however, many find that it is an excellent way to save money compared to buying brand new furniture. It is essential to pay attention to detail when reupholstering a furniture piece, especially if it converts into a bed. There are additional creases, nooks and crannies that are tricky when it comes to reupholstering.

1. First: Take pictures

   For a great way to have a reference to what work is necessary, take pictures of the old fabric job at multiple angles; it shows what to do to reduce the risk of error.

2. Second: Tear off old fabric

   Ripping the old fabric off of the furniture is the fun part. Whether worn, dirty or just ugly, the worker has the ability to take out serious frustrations by removing the fabric. In order to reuse the old fabric for another project, there are less aggressive way to remove fabric as well.

3. Third: Use pictures as a guide

   Armed with new fabric, a staple gun, new foam or stuffing and a hot glue gun, it is possible to recover the ottoman. It is important to pay close attention to the area where the ottoman transforms into a bed because any too-tight fabric can cause serious issues and prevent the piece from operating correctly.

4. Fourth: Check work

   Check the sleeper feature of the ottoman to ensure that there are no issues regarding the function of the furniture. Also check to see that all surfaces are completely covered and that there are no exposed surfaces, which are potential eye sores.
